A supercomputer has predicted a sixth place finish for Stockport County in their 2026-27 League One season.

The computer, owned by sports betting platform Betarades, ran a simulation of the league 100,000 times, generating an average of the table based on all of these different outcomes.

County were deemed to have a 6.5 percent chance of earning a top-two finish, and a 37.7 percent chance of placing in the top six.

The model accounted for results from the last season and the pre-season. It also considers fixture difficulty, performance metrics, and expected goals for and against.

It also integrated team financial data - such as player values according to Transfermarkt - to add more insight into squad strength and potential performance variations.

After 100,000 League One simulations, Leicester were the team who topped the table most consistently, with the final average placing them at number one with 88 points.

Luton were also projected to secure an automatic promotion spot, with 78 points putting them in second place.

Taking up third, fourth, fifth and sixth were Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield, Oxford United and Stockport County respectively.

Meanwhile, Barnsley, Peterborough, Bromley and AFC Wimbledon are all tipped for the drop into League Two.

None of this is set in stone, of course - the league could go any number of ways, and we for one hope it'll be a good season for Stockport.

The Hatters started their season with a bang, picking up three points in a comfortable win against Plymouth. And although they lost their last game against Blackpool, the club have promised to go again when they face Wycombe on 29 August.
