The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Stockport until 11am today (Friday 23 August).
It comes as Storm Lilian sweeps over the north of the country, with strong rain and wind speeds of up to 60mph.
A yellow weather warning means:
- Some roads and bridges railways may close, and public transport may be affected
- Flying debris is possible (such as tiles falling from roofs)
- Power cuts may occur, which could also affect phone coverage
The Met Office recommends gathering loose items outside your property (such as bins garden furniture) and bringing them indoors.
They also said: "Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary."
Transport for Greater Manchester also issued its own advice - a TfGM spokesperson said: "Strong winds from Storm Lillian are causing disruption on the transport network this morning (August 23)
"A number of trees have been brought down by the storm across the Metrolink network leading to a number of lines being suspended and we are working to get all lines re-open as soon as possible. We are urging everyone to check their journey before they travel today.
"There is also disruption on the roads, which is impacting some Bee Network bus services, and disruption to rail services.
