Work is about to start at a new development to build more than 400 homes in Stockport.

Stopford Park, formerly known as Royal George Village, will create 442 apartments in the town centre on a site on Greek Street and Wellington Road.

Construction work will start this month on Bosden, the first of three residential buildings in the scheme.

This will create 62 one and two-bedroom homes for sale in the new neighbourhood.

Alongside Bosden, work is also due to start at the Torkington building to add 122 apartments to the scheme, and a 16-storey site called Lyme will finish the project by adding a further 258 apartments.

The work should be finished by the end of 2027 with the first homes available to reserve from Spring this year.

The three-acre site on Wellington Road and Greek Street is being delivered by Cityheart, the development team behind Stockport Interchange.

The former Metropolitan Girls' School on Greek Street will also be converted into a 'collaborative flex workspace' for local businesses.

Cityheart partnered with Oak Construction Projects of Stockport to build the first phase of work.

Richard Stanton from Oak Construction Projects said: "Being a Stockport based contractor we are especially pleased to have been appointed as Cityheart's construction partner for Bosden.

"We will be working with our network of locally based subcontractors to deliver 62 much needed residential units on this high-profile site in central Stockport."

Greg Ball, development director from Cityheart, added: "We've been undertaking preparation work since acquiring the site last year and it is great to now appoint Oak Construction as our construction partner for Bosden.

"2025 will be an exciting year as we start to see the first of these new homes come forward for sale in the heart of Stockport which has undergone such an incredible transformation in recent years."
