Work starts on new £20m gym and library in Marple

Work is now underway on a new leisure hub in Marple containing a gym, swimming pool, library, cafe, and more.
Ground was officially broken on the £20m project on Friday 26 April.
The modern facility is due to open in 2026, and will serve as a replacement for Marple baths and Marple library, whilst offering a range of new features.
It will have a five-lane swimming pool, a ground floor library with a small cafe, a 60-station fitness suite, shared community spaces, and a relocated Marple clinic.
The main contractor is Willmott Dixon, and they have also provided opportunities for local apprentices to help out.
The project itself has been partly funded by a government Levelling Up grant.

Cllr Mark Roberts, Deputy Leader of Stockport Council, described the ground-breaking ceremony as "a major milestone for Marple".
He added: "This is a project driven by local voices and delivered in partnership to meet the needs of residents now and for the future.
"The hub is a landmark investment in the future of our borough - it's about more than just bricks and mortar. It's about creating a vibrant, inclusive space that brings people together, supports healthier lifestyles, and strengthens our local economy."
Speaking last year, Cllr Geoff Abell - who represents the Marple North ward - welcomed the new community hub and said he is "very much looking forward to it being built."
He added that Marple Baths was "very much loved" but "would have taken too much to repair."
