What's on in Stockport this bank holiday weekend - music, soapbox racing, shopping and more
Stockport is set for a host of varied events this bank holiday weekend.
It's a good weekend for rock fans, with the legendary Rockstock festival on at Woodbank Park, along with the Retro Rockshow at the Plaza.
But if headbanging isn't your thing, sport, soapbox racing, shopping, and dancing is also taking place across the borough this weekend.

Parkrun | Parks across Stockport | Saturday 27 May | 9am
Walk, jog, or run for five kilometres in parks around Stockport every Saturday morning.
According to the Parkrun website: "Parkrun is a free, community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate. Parkrun is 5k and takes place every Saturday morning.
"Parkrun is positive, welcoming and inclusive, there is no time limit and no one finishes last. Everyone is welcome to come along."
Parkrun is free - attendants need only register once online HERE to take part.
Runs take place at the following locations at 9am every Saturday morning:
- Bramhall - Bramall Hall, Hall Road, Bramhall, Stockport, SK7 3NX
- Burnage - Varley Park, Battersea Road, Stockport, SK4 3EA
- Cheadle Hulme - Bruntwood Park, Bruntwood Lane, Cheadle, SK8 1HX
- Lyme Park - Lyme Park, Lyme Handley, Disley, Cheshire East, SK12 2NR
- Marple - Brabyns Park, Brabyns Brow, Marple Bridge, Stockport, SK6 5DT
- Woodbank - Woodbank Park, Turncroft Lane, Offerton, Stockport, SK1 4JR
Reddish family fun day and artisan market | Broadstone Mill Shopping Outlet | Saturday 27 May | 11am-3pm
Over 60 makers and traders will be at Broadstone Mill Shopping Outlet on 27 May for this family fun day.
The event is free and features ample parking.
A description from the organisers says: "Compere Mitch will play tunes all day, whilst your kids enjoy the bouncy castle, crafting, and fun activities.
There will be hot street food, a bar, freshly brewed coffee, and lots of friendly, talented makers showcasing affordable, unique crafts, gifts, and foodie treats."

Retro Rockshow | The Plaza | Saturday 27 May | 7.30pm
This is nothing short of a rock extravaganza, featuring covers performed by top-quality musicians. According to The Plaza website: "The RETRO Rock Show is a live 2-hour extravaganza, performed by the finest rock musicians who have toured with some of the biggest names in rock!
"From the moment the lights go up and the band hit the stage you'll be taken on a musical RETRO journey featuring songs by Queen, Starship, Bryan Adams, Def Leppard, Roxette, Berlin, Van Halen, Belinda Carlisle , U2 and many more!
"Packed with high energy and a full stage production that makes this show one of the most exciting to see! Featuring Kerry O'Dowd from BBC's The Voice UK on lead vocals!
"A night for the whole family of all ages to enjoy that will have you singing along to every song!"

Rockstock 2023 | Woodbank Park | Saturday 27 May to Sunday 28 May
Over thirty live tribute acts will come together in Woodbank Park to form this dream lineup of bands - AC/DC, Metallica, Queen, and many more.
Perfect for young rockers and seasoned festival-goers alike, this two-stage event features top-quality tribute acts, as well as food and beer stalls, all for just £10 per adult and £3 per child.

Krazy Races | St Peter's Square / Stockport town centre | Sunday 28 May | 10.45am
Sunday 28 May will see 40 teams of soapbox racers - including a Stockport Council team - speed through the streets of Stockport powered merely by gravity, courage, and luck.
The event will be hosted by Krazy Races and sponsored by Totally Stockport – Stockport's Business Improvement District – and will be free to attend. The event aims to raise thousands for local charities, as well as the headline charity When You Wish Upon a Star. The audience is expected to comprise around 15,000 locals.
Paul Taylor, Totally Stockport's Manager, said on the Krazy Races website: "town centre-based events have been attracting increasing numbers of visitors over the past few years. Krazy Races could be a record breaker for a one-day event."
Racers will launch from St Peter's Square, then tear their way down to Mersey Square, past the Plaza building, and then on to the air raid shelters, navigating chicanes and obstacles on the way.

Ballroom, Latin and Sequence class | Manchester Rugby Club, Cheadle Hulme, SK8 7NB | Monday 29 May | 8.30-9.15pm
Ever wanted to learn to dance? This is your chance!
According to the Stockport Council website: "This class is ideal for those who have done little or no dancing before. A range of Ballroom, Latin and Sequence dances are taught.
"Come along, meet new friends, have fun and keep fit.
"Prior booking essential."
