Stockport-based business Vernon Building Society has completed an 'impressive' refurbishment of its Petersgate headquarters.
The £400,000 refurbishment has created not just a revamped interior, but also a new community space for local charities and community groups, as well as a new defibrillator.
It comes not long after the business refurbished its branches in Reddish and Hazel Grove. Bramhall is next on the refurbishment programme list, and will be moving to a new site in the previously vacated Natwest building within the village.
The Vernon has been in the three-storey Petersgate building since 1988. The business has six branches across Stockport and Cheshire, of which Petersgate is the largest, home to a 65-strong team.
Steve Fletcher, Chief Executive at the Vernon, said: "We've been proudly based on St Petersgate in Stockport for 100 years now, but as we celebrate our centenary, it's fitting that we have a modern and vibrant space that colleagues can be proud of and Members can enjoy spending time in. I couldn't be happier with the finished result.
"Our high street branch network is incredibly important to our members. The move to digital life benefits some in society, but there are others who would prefer to make important financial decisions by speaking in person to a local and qualified member of staff. While many banks are closing their high street branches, we will continue to invest in ours for as long as our Members continue to value them."
