Two Stockport men have been arrested following an attempted burglary in Congleton.

Cheshire Police were called to reports of the men attempting to gain entry to a garden shed in the early hours of Monday 30 October.

When they arrived at the scene, officers found the pair - aged 27 and 49 - hiding nearby. They were subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary, and have since been released on police bail.

Following their arrest, officers located a van nearby and discovered a number of tools inside which are suspected to be stolen. The tools recovered include power tools, hand tools, and a socket set.

As part of enquiries into the incident, police are urging residents in the nearby areas to check their sheds, outbuildings and vans to see if they are missing any tools of this description. If you know anybody in Congleton who lives on or around Avon Drive, please encourage them to check.

PC Sam Needham said: "Our investigation is in its early stages and as part of enquiries, we are asking members of the public to double check they are not missing any of the tools described since Sunday 29 October.

"Both men are believed to have been in the Cheshire East area for a number of hours prior to their arrest.

"If you believe you may have been a victim, please contact Cheshire Police via cheshire.police.uk/tell-us, or call 101, quoting 23001072326."
