Two arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle after pursuit at ‘astonishing speed’
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) intercepted a vehicle travelling at three times the speed limit after a pursuit in the Shaw Heath area.
A 29-year-old and a 23-year-old were arrested in the early hours of this morning (Thursday 15 November) following an attempt to escape in the vehicle.
At around 3.40am, officers from GMP's Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit out on patrol came across a suspicious grey Audi A4 and requested it to pull over.
The Audi instead made off, and police entered pursuit.
After travelling at 90mph and running multiple red lights, the Audi came to a stop on King Street West and both occupants in the car were arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle.
The driver was further arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop.
Sergeant Catherine Evans from GMP's Stockport district said: "These two individuals showed absolutely no regard for law enforcement, firstly not stopping for officers when they were first approached but the speeds they were travelling at to evade capture was truly astonishing.
"Thankfully, with it being so early in the morning the traffic was light and TVIU were able to bring the offending vehicle to a safe conclusion after a short pursuit.
"Road traffic offences such as speeding and dangerous driving are neighbourhood priorities and something, as a district, we are keen to eradicate from our streets.
