Tributes have been paid to 50-year-old Sylvester Abayomi who died in a collision on Kingsway.

His partner Denise remembers him as "the most caring soul and gentle person you could ever meet."

The two-vehicle crash took place at 4.37am on Monday 9 March, at the junction of Green End Road and Kingsway.

Sylvester sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital - but despite best efforts of medical staff, he passed away due to his injuries.

Two men, aged 20 and 24, have since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

"On Monday 9th March, the love of my life was taken away", Sylvester's partner Denise said.

"He was the most caring soul and gentle person you could ever meet.

"He had time for everybody and is loved by everyone. Syll will be sadly missed."

DC Thomas Johnson, from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "I want to say that our thoughts remain with the families and friends of Sylvester – we are continuing to support them wherever we can."

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, and are appealing for anybody with information which may help to come forward.

This includes eye-witness accounts, CCTV or dashcam footage, or any phone recordings from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.

The two vehicles involved were a Volvo S40 and Sylvester's Volkswagen Golf.

DC Johnson added: "While we have secured two arrests, this is still an active investigation, and we are looking for anyone who has any information regarding the case to come forward to get in touch with us.
