Network Rail has announced that track refurbishments will take place between Davenport and Hazel Grove railway stations, at different times through the year.

In a letter addressed to local residents, the rail company said work will involve track refurbishments; this will mean replacing existing rails between SK3 8HL in Davenport and SK7 5AS in Hazel Grove.

Network Rail owns and manages most of the railway network and infrastructure in Great Britain. The work in this case aims to extend the life of the track and improve reliability of trains using it.

A letter to residents who live near the station read: "[The work] will help us to operate a safe railway and increase the reliability of passenger and freight trains.

Works will take place sporadically throughout the year, between SK3 8HL in Davenport and SK7 5AS in Hazel Grove (Image taken of Network Rail letter)

The works will take place between 23.15 and 05.30, with dates as follows:

  • Monday 1 April – Friday 5 April 2024
  • Monday 13 May – Friday 17 May 2024
  • Monday 24 June – Friday 28 June 2024
  • Monday 5 August – Friday 9 August 2024
  • Monday 16 September – Friday 20 September 2024
  • Monday 28 October – Friday 1 November 2024

Work will be done using an engineering train, road-rail vehicles, track machines, small plant, lights, and generators. Staff and vehicles will access the track via Davenport station.

Network Rail says that because of the machinery used, some noise is to be expected, but that workers will attempt to keep it to a minimum where possible.
