Three Stockport locations named among best places to live in England and Wales

Another month, another 'best place to live' accolade for Stockport!
This time, though, three Stockport locations have made the cut.
Marple, Gatley and Bramhall all featured within the top 25 of the Best Places to Live in 2025 in England and Wales, compiled by Garrington's Property Finders.
Marple featured at number four on the list, Gatley at 14, and Bramhall at number 23.
Reddish also wasn't far behind, at number 64.
Garrington's claims that its list is an 'impartial', 'objective' ranking, based on public data.
In determining the positions, researchers considered natural beauty, wellbeing, heritage, schools and jobs plus value for money.
Garrington's researchers also considered "places that may not have met the broader data criteria for our main research but are nonetheless full of potential, charm, and lifestyle appeal".
Speaking of Marple, a Garrington's spokesperson said: "In 2024, [Marple] came 15th in our Best Places to Live ranking, but in 2025 it has risen to an impressive fourth place overall."

They added: "The town is within easy reach of the big city – it boasts two train stations and is just 10 miles from central Manchester – but offers a gentler pace of life with a rural location and canalside walks, along with a farmer's market, theatre and independent cinema."
Speaking more generally of the research, the spokesperson added: "Our report is NOT a league table of the 'best and worst places to live'.
"On the contrary, the research only ranks the best places to live, so being included – whether at number 1 or number 1447 – is to be applauded."
