Tesla showroom in Heaton Chapel could be turned into new homes

A Tesla showroom in Stockport could be knocked down to make way for new homes.
Plans have been submitted to Stockport council to turn the site on the A6 in Heaton Chapel into a mix of ten townhouses and 28 apartments.
It is based close to Heaton Chapel railway station, with the design for the land including a total of 40 car parking spaces for both residents and visitors.
The planning application explains that the proposal would contribute 'substantially' towards Stockport's need for new homes.
It adds: 'The site is in a highly sustainable location within the urban area, well served by local services, amenities and appropriate infrastructure.
'The proposal represents the efficient use of previously developed land, reducing pressure on other areas of the borough such as the green belt and rural locations.'
The plans set out that around 12 of the proposed homes could be offered at 'affordable' prices, which means below market rates, but the final number is subject to a viability assessment.
Each of the houses in the scheme would have 'suitably sized private gardens' with hedges used to mark each plot as well as 'boundary treatments'.
There are around 9,000 people on Stockport's social housing list, with a huge need for more affordable homes in the borough.
Stockport Council has set a target date of April 30 to decide the application.
