Surgery procedures at Stepping Hill Hospital have received a top rating from a 'global exemplar' of medical registry. 

Stockport NHS was one of only four trusts in Greater Manchester to receive a 'gold standard' rating from the National Joint Registry (NJR). 

The NJR monitors the performance of hip, knee, ankle, elbow and shoulder joint replacement operations to improve clinical outcomes.

The gold accolade means that Stockport NHS Trust has been 100% compliant in collecting and reporting data on these surgical procedures. 

The NJR collects data such as this to uphold standards of patient safety, quality of care, and overall cost-effectiveness in joint replacement surgery.

Stepping Hill Hospital took part in the development of an NJR Data Quality Audit when it was first piloted in 2014.

Since then, it has been confirmed as a quality data provider in each year.

According to Stockport NHS: "The NJR Data Quality Audit investigates the accurate number of joint replacement procedures submitted to the registry compared to the number carried out and recorded in the local hospital Patient Administration System. 

"The audit ensures that the NJR is collecting and reporting upon the most complete, accurate data possible across all hospitals performing joint replacement operations, including Stepping Hill Hospital."
