Lib Dem’s Hazel Grove candidate offers ‘fulsome apology’ after anti-Liverpool comments

The Lib Dem candidate in Hazel Grove has offered a "fulsome apology" after making an anti-Liverpool slur while campaigning.

Lisa Smart, who also serves as a Stockport councillor, has come under fire after a video shared by the Daily Mail shows Ms Smart out door-knocking when a woman answers who says she is registered to vote in Liverpool.

The Lib Dem candidate responded with a smile: 'Ah, understood – so you've just been nicking stuff while you're here."

The Stockport lad cycling from UK to Australia just like his dad 40 years ago

A Stockport lad is cycling 12,000 miles from the UK to Australia just like his dad did 40 years ago - using the same model bike.

Jamie Hargreaves, 22, has been 'raised on his Father's story' - so on the 13 May, he set off on his own epic journey around the world, from Manchester to Australia.

The university graduate from Stockport is documenting his adventure across his social media - and hopes to write a book when he completes the mission to draw upon from his Dad's experience of the world from 1984 in comparison to Jamie's in the present day.

Thomson Street Bridge in Edgeley to be transformed into ‘art masterpiece’

The Thomson Street bridge - which runs between Edgeley and Stockport town centre - will have a wildlife-themed redesign over the coming weeks (Images - Google Maps / Alasdair Perry)

Thomson Street Bridge, which runs between Stockport and Edgeley, is set to be redecorated with "a glorious piece of wildlife art". 

The design has been devised by artists at Stockport's Arc Centre, with input from students at Stockport college and local community groups. 

Although the design remains a secret, the Cheshire Wildlife Trust (which is also involved in the project), said "[it] is colourful and exciting and will certainly enhance the look and feel of this key walking and cycling route".
