A daring Stockport woman is taking on a half marathon after receiving a life-saving transplant.

Helen, 45, will take on the Great North Run in September to raise money for Anthony Nolan, the stem cell research charity she credits with saving her life.

She was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a rare type of blood cancer, in 2018.

It was a stem cell transplant through Anthony Nolan which saved her life.

Anthony Nolan funds groundbreaking stem cell research, and also makes lifesaving connections between patients and strangers who are ready to donate their stem cells.

If a patient has a condition that affects their bone marrow or blood, then a stem cell transplant may be their best chance of survival.

Doctors will give new, healthy stem cells to the patient via their bloodstream, where they begin to grow and create healthy red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.

"My hope is that every pound raised helps give someone else the second chance I was so lucky to have", Helen said.
