Stockport's gastronomy scene has been recognised and praised at this year's Manchester Food and Drink Awards.

The awards ceremony, which took place on Monday evening (26 January), featured 18 different categories covering a range of culinary bases.

In a big win for the borough, Stockport was named best food neighbourhood of the year, ahead of the likes of Chorlton, Altrincham, Sale and Levenshulme.

What's more, Stockport sandwich specialists Rack picked up the food trader of the year award, and there were a wealth of other nominees across Stockport who distinguished themselves with a shortlist, despite falling just short of the main prize.

Shortlisted eateries included: The Little Sri Lankan; Cafe Sanjuan; Where The Light Gets In; Little Scarfs; The Runaway Brewery; Littlewoods Butchers; Fold; Cantaloupe; Tawny Stores Marple; The Magnet Freehouse; and the Royal Nawaab Pyramid.

Speaking of the winners and the shortlisted Stockport spots, a spokesperson for Stockport Council said: "We couldn't be prouder of the talent being recognised.

"From brilliant independents to bold newcomers and much-loved neighbourhood favourites, these nominations show just how strong Stockport's food and drink scene really is!"

Alexa Stratton-Powell, director at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival Awards, said: "We're incredibly proud to announce this year's winners, who together represent the excellence, creativity and resilience of Greater Manchester's hospitality sector.

"At a time when the industry continues to face tough head winds, it's more important than ever to recognise and celebrate the people and venues doing exceptional work every day."
