Stockport Wetherspoons submits plans for new beer garden
Stockport's Wetherspoons branch could be getting a new and extended beer garden.
Plans have been submitted to expand the existing garden at The Calverts Court into an underused space in an adjoining private car park.
The proposals will increase the amount of space to 300 square metres - it will also introduce additional seating and festoon lighting. There are also proposals for a glazed pergola - a structure to provide shelter and shade.
Like the existing garden, opening times will be 8am Sunday to Thursday, and 8am-1am on Friday and Saturday.
A study conducted during the planning process suggested that the impact of any additional noise from the garden would be 'low'.
"The proposed design will respect the existing architectural context and contribute positively to the conservation area by revitalizing an underutilized space without affecting the historic fabric of the building", the applicant argued.
"The development will preserve the heritage significance of the area by maintaining the character of the main building and improving the aesthetic quality of an underutilized space", they added.
A decision is due in March 2025.
The Calverts Court sits at 13 St Petersgate in Stockport town centre.
