Stockport was blessed with another few minutes of fame recently, as it was seen by millions in a feature on Strictly Come Dancing.

Stockport Town Hall was used by actor Adam Thomas and his professional partner Luba Mushtuk to film their introductory segment and rehearse their waltz.

In the event, the pair scored highly, picking up a score of 32 out of 40 from the judges, securing their place near the top of the leaderboard.

Adam said: "The ballroom is absolutely beautiful and the architecture is amazing. I drive past the town hall every day and I never knew what was here inside. It's the perfect place to learn the waltz. It's a brilliant event space and it's the best place we've rehearsed."

He added: "I live in this area. It's so up and coming, and there's so much happening at the moment. I have my bar Spinn Off in the historic Underbanks area of the town centre, and it's a really great place to be."

Councillor Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council, said: "Stockport Town Hall ballroom is one of the jewels in the crown of our borough. We are lucky to have such a wealth of stunning and historic event spaces in our community, which can also be hired by our residents."

Councillor Frankie Singleton said: "It was marvellous to see the ballroom showcased so beautifully on Saturday in such a high-profile programme that can be enjoyed by all the family. Now, let's all get behind our local Stopfordian Adam as he tries to lift the Glitterball Trophy."
