Stockport town centre gets stunning new mural painted by local artist

A new wildlife-themed mural has appeared on Bridgefield Street in Stockport town centre.
It's been painted by local artist Russ Meehan - also known as Qubek. The artwork was inspired by the artist's frequent childhood trips through parks and nature around Stockport.
The work was commissioned by Groundwork Greater Manchester, to celebrate the completion of their 'Wild About Stockport' project. This project involved the planting of tens of thousands of new plants around Stockport, in Suffragette Square, Bridgefield Street, Chestergate Street, and St. Peter's Square.
A spokesperson for One Stockport said of the artwork: "Inspired by his childhood adventures exploring the local woodlands behind his house in Stockport, Qubek has poured his passion for nature into this mural."
Qubek is one of Greater Manchester's best-known and widely-respected street artists, with an impressive Instagram following and a remarkable body of work across the city.
Speaking of this particular project, Lucy Stowell-Smith from Groundwork Greater Manchester said: "We are very excited to unveil this fantastic wildlife mural to celebrate the successful completion of our Wild About Stockport project.
"The project has had a huge impact on enhancing and protecting the town's green spaces and the new mural complements these much-improved green spaces.
"We hope this mural, and the connecting trail we have created, continue to inspire people to explore, protect, and enjoy the beautiful green spaces we now have in Stockport."
