Coffee Island II in Stockport town centre is closing its doors, the owners have announced.

They said a decline in foot traffic had left the business with 'no option but to close'.

In a statement on social media, the cafe team said they were 'heartbroken' at the closure.

Elaborating on the challenges, they said: "In the past year alone, more than seven new cafes and food businesses have opened in Merseyway shopping centre.

They also suggested nearby roadworks had reduced the number of visitors.

"Despite our best efforts, these challenges have left us with no choice but to close", they added.

The statement continues: "We are deeply grateful to all of you - our loyal customers - who've supported us and made Coffee Island part of your lives.

"Saying goodbye is incredibly hard, and our team is truly heartbroken.

"Thank you for the memories and for being part of our family."

Coffee Island II was based in the Merseyway centre, near the Mersey Square entrance.

It has been in business for 25 years, and offered food and drink for Merseyway shoppers.
