Stockport is gearing up to celebrate a host of activities for its annual Vegan Festival on Sunday.

The event will welcome more than 50 vegan traders from Stockport and beyond to the Masonic Guildhall, and will see a range of activities and demonstrations alongside a market.

Each visitor to the festival will receive a free 200g pack of Clearspring silken tofu on the door, which may be best cooked at home following the series of cookery demonstrations from The Vegetarian Society in the afternoon.

A range of food will be on offer throughout the day, ranging from Indian and Mexican street food to baked treats and deli food.

The festival will also feature a talk from avian charity Advocacy for Pigeons, which will teach visitors ways to recognise when a pigeon is in distress and step in to assist.

There will also be an opportunity to adopt animals that have been rescued in Manchester: rodents, hamsters, gerbils, mice, and guinea pigs will be available for adoption for those seeking a household pet, thanks to vegan-owned charity Tiny Paws MCR, which runs a rescue centre for small animals from a home in Bury.

Victoria Bryceson, the organiser of the event, said: "Sample world street food from around the globe, discover local and artisan produce, and connect with likeminded people. There'll be expert talks on vegan lifestyle and nutrition as well as 50 incredible stalls.

"You can't miss this!"

The Stockport Vegan Festival has been organised by animal charity Miracle's Mission, which has supported animal welfare across the UK, Borneo, and Egypt since 2015.

The charity works with sick, injured, and disabled animals to rehabilitate them and rehome them with new families.

The charity also seeks to limit the number of stray cats and dogs born on the streets by neutering stray animals, and relies on donations to stay afloat.

The festival will take place at Stockport Masonic Guildhall from 10:30am to 4:30pm on 15 February.

Entry is £5, and free for those under 16 accompanied by an adult. Tickets are only available in advance from the Vegan Events UK website.
