An independent Stockport silversmith has celebrated a successful year in business.

SJS Smith Jewellery relocated to 20 Little Underbank last year, and officially opened on 2 September. Since then, the site has become a 'beacon of creativity', providing a spot not just to buy and appreciate quality handmade jewellery, but also to learn to make it yourself.

The business was founded by Sam Smith - herself an experienced silversmith - as both a boutique shop and a teaching space.

On Saturday 31 August and Sunday 1 September, Sam was joined by some special guests for an anniversary celebration at the premises.

Present were Navendu Mishra (MP for Stockport) and Cllr Suzanne Wyatt (Mayor of Stockport). Both guests praised the impact of the business in Stockport, in boosting creativity and in skilled crafts.

At the celebration, Sam also showcased works from herself and her students, and even gave some pieces away.

"It's been an incredible journey over the past year," she said.

"We are grateful for the support of our wonderful customers and the local community. Our goal has always been to inspire creativity and bring the joy of jewellery-making to everyone, and seeing so many people come together to celebrate that has been truly heartwarming."

Since opening, Sam has prided herself on fostering a sense not just of quality, but also of creativity - in particular, she emphasises the importance of offering a place to help nurture talented local artists.

She looks forward to more exciting times to come.
