A shoplifter from Stockport has been banned from every shop in Wilmslow town centre.

Ryan Wrigley, from Stockport but of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft from a shop at Chester Magistrates Court.

As well as being handed a six-week prison sentence – suspended for 12 months – Wrigley was also issued a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order banning him from entering any shop in the town centre.

Cheshire Police have urged local residents to report him immediately if he is seen breaching the order.

Police Constable Madi Forrest, of Macclesfield Neighbourhood Police Team, said: "I welcome the news that Ryan Wrigley has been handed a Criminal Behaviour Order, that will see him banned from entering any commercial retailer within Wilmslow town centre.

"I do hope that now this five-year order has been handed down to Mr Wrigley, the retailers can breathe a welcomed sigh of relief safe in the knowledge that he will be watched extra carefully to ensure he does not reoffend.

"With that in mind, should he do so, Wrigley could face a substantial fine or even a prison sentence."
