Train staff working at rail operator CrossCountry will be taking strike action on Saturday 1 November.
It means that there will be 'very limited' CrossCountry services through Stockport on this day, with 'significant disruption' expected.
Those services that do run will be 'significantly busier than usual', and they will also be finishing much earlier in the day.
Passengers are therefore advised to plan return journeys carefully.
CrossCountry runs trains on the busy Birmingham to Manchester route which includes Stockport.
The strikes are being organised by the RMT union (the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers).
Shiona Rolfe, Managing Director at CrossCountry, said: "We are disappointed for our customers that the RMT is undertaking a second day of planned industrial action this autumn.
"While we will try to run as many services as possible, customers will inevitably face significant disruption. We are committed to reaching an agreement with the RMT and remain available to continue talks."
