A Brinnington man has been sentenced after violently abusing his pet dog.
In July, Twenty-two-year-old Jack Gibson, of Blackberry Lane, was caught on CCTV subjecting his dog to violent attacks.
He was seen in a lift picking her up by the harness, throwing her to the floor and kicking her.
The footage was reported to police, who subsequently took the dog away from Gibson and into care.
Officers then secured a file of evidence and sent it to the Crown Prosecution Service.
It resulted in Gibson pleading guilty and being sentenced on 22 September at Stockport Magistrates Court.
He was given 100 hours of unpaid work in addition to statutory surcharges and costs, and was also banned from owning dogs for the next five years.
The dog, Skylar, has since been adopted and is 'doing well in her new life', Greater Manchester Police said.
The investigation and sentencing formed part of Operation Vulcan, a wide-ranging police project centred around Brinnington which aims to tackle criminality head-on, while 'laying foundations' to keep the crime rate lower in the future.
