Local volunteering heroes across Stockport will be celebrated in a special awards ceremony this year.

The 'Stockport Rocks!' awards will take place on Tuesday 20 May 2025, and aim to recognise the outstanding work of volunteers across the area.

The awards work on a nomination basis, whereby members of the public can select and / or vote for a local volunteer or organisation in one of 12 categories; whether it's a neighbour, friend, or community stalwart.

The ceremony will take place at Edgeley Park, and follows the success of last year's inaugural Stockport Rocks awards.

Volunteers cover a huge range of services between them, and contribute an estimated £105m to the Stockport economy each year.

Nominations will be open from 1 - 28 February. Find more information here.

Last year, the ceremony was presented by Stockport County chairman Steve Bellis, and featured other keynote speakers including Cllr Mark Hunter - leader of Stockport Council - and Steve Oliver, CEO of musicMagpie.

Introducing the ceremony, Steve Bellis asked "Where would we be without volunteers?", and added: "I've never been as honoured to present an event as I have been this evening".

Cllr Mark Hunter said: "I'm very pleased and very proud to be part of this amazing celebration, for those members of our communities who volunteer time, expertise and skills across Stockport."

"Volunteers are the lifeblood of our communities. [...] They offer a unique range of perspectives and skills to make a difference to local people in Stockport."
