A Stockport charity is inviting residents to support the homeless in 'the most active way'.

The Wellspring, a homelessness charity, is hosting a community sleepout in Stockport town centre, where residents are invited to spend the night outside, raising funds and awareness for the scourge of rough sleeping.

The sleepout takes place from 8pm on Saturday 10 October, finishing the following Sunday morning at 8am.

Participants on the night will have a toilet and some light refreshments. But besides that, it's just a tent, plenty of layers and the company of other sleepers.

"This powerful event not only raises much-needed funds but also shines a spotlight on the harsh realities of homelessness", a spokesperson said.

"Spending just one night outside can't replicate being homeless, but it can put into perspective how difficult life without a home can be."

Anybody aged over 14 can register for the event. However, any under-18s must be accompanied by an adult.

If you would like to take part, registration is important so the organisers can plan logistics.

Every penny raised will go directly towards supporting The Wellspring's ongoing efforts to help those in need.

The exact sleeping location is still to be confirmed, but previously the event has been held in the St Mary's Churchyard in Stockport Market Place.
