Runners across Stockport will be doing the borough proud as they head to the capital to take on the London Marathon.

These local heroes will be raising money for a variety of different causes.

St Ann's Hospice, in Heald Green, is one local cause, with a number of participants running in its name.

This charity provides care for people facing life-limiting illness.

One runner is Rosie McNicholls, who worked as a staff nurse at St Ann's Hospice in Heald Green for two years.

Rosie said: "I occasionally still work at St Ann's so I appreciate the importance of raising vital funds to support patients and their families in their most difficult times in life."

Another is Nicola Bull, whose dad was cared for by the Heald Green hospice in his final weeks.

Nicola said: "They made his time there so special, not only were they amazing with my dad but as a whole family they really supported us and helped us through what was and still is the most difficult time of our lives.

"I'm doing this in honour of my dad who I know will be cheering me on and he would be so proud when I cross that finish line."

Emma Barclay, Head of Clinical Services at St Ann's Hospice, and her brother Jon Baker are also taking on the London Marathon.

"We're taking on this iconic challenge for St Ann's Hospice because we told our dad we would!" Emma said.

"We sadly lost our dad in June and will be running in his memory.

"Dad loved the idea of us running it together to raise such valuable funds, we hope you do you proud Dad!"

The marathon takes place on Sunday 21 April.
