A number of community groups across Stockport have been recognised for their projects and efforts for local railway stations, with nominations at the national Community Rail Awards.

Friends of Woodsmoor, Romiley, Reddish South, and Brinnington stations have all been selected in a number of different categories for this year's awards.

In the words of the organisers, the aim of the Community Rail Awards is to "recognise the important work carried out by those in community rail, often volunteers, who work across Britain's rail network to make stations welcoming spaces for passengers and visitors alike".

In the running are a host of other station groups from across the country, competing in 12 categories.

The local nominations are as follows:

  • Best Community Engagement Project | South East Manchester CRP and Brinnington Station Adopters for Brinnington Community Engagement
  • Photo Competition: Capturing the essence of community rail | Friends of Reddish South Station for Tai Chi Evening on the Station Platform
  • Small Projects Award | Friends of Romiley Station for Romiley Station Sign Highlighting Sensory Diversity
  • Community Creative Projects and Station Arts | Woodsmoor Station Friends for Woodsmoor Station Art Project
  • It's Your Station | Friends of Reddish South Station

The winners will be announced on 18 March, at a ceremony in Swansea.

Cllr Grace Baynham, Cabinet Member for Parks, Highways and Transport Services, said: "It's great to see these nominations and I know it reflects the huge amount of hard work that has taken place by community groups in the borough.

"I wish all the nominees the best of luck for the awards ceremony taking place in March."
