Stockport County's youth players praised in Parliament

Stockport's next generation of sporting talent was highlighted in Parliament this week.
Hazel Grove MP Lisa Smart singled out Olivia and her sister, who play for Stockport County's under-8s and under-9s team.
In what was her 100th Parliamentary speech, the MP said they were 'great examples' of young players, and were "showing clear talent and skill".
Ms Smart added: "It's really important that we support young girls playing so that they get into the habit of playing team sports.
"Olivia wrote to me because they're looking for some support with bibs and balls, which I'm working on. [...]
"Getting young girls playing sport and keeping them playing sport is a really important way of getting them in the habit for the rest of their life."
Stockport County's youth training is well-established. Training sessions are taking place this Easter for young players aged between six and 12, featuring skills sessions, matches, fun activities, and more.
Speaking of the sessions, the County Community Trust's Inclusion & Participation Manager Daniel Landstrom said: "We're delighted to be laying on another programme of County Camps this Easter.
"They not only allow boys and girls to keep themselves fit and active during the school holidays, but also enable them to learn new football skills and make new friends."
It's all part of County's growth - currently the team sit at fourth in League One, a remarkable spot after having been promoted from League Two only last season. They're battling for promotion to the Championship.
