A calendar of music-themed events for October has been compiled as part of the 'Stockport Sounds' strand of the Town of Culture programme.
There are four featured events in all.
Stockport Disability Poetry Club
The first is the Stockport Disability Poetry Club. This takes place at 23 High Street on 6 October from 10.30am-12.30pm.
The club involves reading, writing, and discussing poetry. According to the organisers: "The discussion may involve positive critique, interpreting and dissecting the writing; the aim is to get creative and have the opportunity to meet other people."
Visitors can count on free entry, as well as cake and hot beverages.
The event is aimed specifically at people aged 30 and over.

Stockport Symphony Orchestra - Gershwin, Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich
Next is Stockport Symphony Orchestra's performance of works by George Gershwin, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Dmitri Shostakovich. This takes place on Saturday 14 October at Stockport Town Hall, from 7.30pm.
A description for this event reads: "Rhapsody in Blue occupies a special place in American music; it introduced jazz to classical concert audiences and simultaneously made an instant star of its composer. Martin James Bartlett recorded it with the London Philharmonic orchestra and has played it across the world to great acclaim.
"As for Rachmaninov, never has there been a symphony so rich in sweeping, majestic, extended melodies. The Finale begins like a whirling dance succeeded by the definitive Rachmaninov Big Tune, a glowing, eloquent theme unfolding sumptuously with a stirring coda to bring the symphony to its resplendent conclusion."

Jam Soup
Also taking place this month is Jam Soup, a wonderfully-welcoming jam session for musicians of all abilities. This takes place at The Spinning Top from 7.30pm every Wednesday.
Guitars, drums and keys are all set up at this event, and visitors need only turn up. There are regular rotations - so everybody has a chance to play - and no real limits on what you want to play.
We visited Jam Soup recently - check out our review HERE.
Food & Groove in the Square
Nearer the end of October is 'Food & Groove in the Square', taking place in Bramhall village square from midday to 7pm on Sunday 22 October.
This event features an 'eclectic' mixture of food and drink, street traders, and a DJ.
