Stockport Council have negotiated a deal with Enterprise's Car Club which means residents can get a year's membership for £10, along with £10 starting credit.

The car club is designed for low-mileage drivers. It allows members to rent one of over 1500 cars across the UK for anywhere from half an hour to several days.

Users pay a fee based on the type of vehicle selected, the length of time borrowed, and the distance travelled.

Enterprise state that the car club means "you have all the convenience of a vehicle without the hassle and expense of owning one".

The council estimates that members who drive less than 6-8,000 miles annually could save up to £3,500 each year.

According to Enterprise, the scheme aims to alleviate traffic by reducing the number of vehicles on the road, as well as reducing the impact of cars on the environment by fielding more eco-friendly vehicles and by reducing the need for people to own cars.

To activate the deal, users should enter the code STOCK10 when registering.

More information can be found on Enterprise's website here.
