Plans have been revealed for a massive new housing estate around the 'secret lake' in Stockport.

Developer Northern Group hopes to build up to 200 homes on the land off Station Road in Reddish, near the boundary with Levenshulme and close to the Fallowfield Loop.

At least half the homes in the scheme are set to be affordable, with plans to open up the lake to the public.

Improvements to the site include creating a fishing pier, nature walks, play area, and new walking and cycling paths.

The plot of land is around 47,500sqm in size and is currently made up of 'vacant scrubland', but according to bosses behind the plans the area has become a hotspot for fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour.

Gorton and Denton MP Andrew Gwynne posted about the plans on Facebook in June, saying 'the whole area is prone to constant flytipping.'

Northern Group is aiming to submit a planning application for the work to Stockport council this summer.

Proposals for the site include building 109 houses with two and three bedrooms, and 91 apartments with one and two bedrooms.

Northern Group has already completed a public consultation on the scheme which finished on June 18.

A spokesperson for the company said: "Our plans for Station Road will provide a minimum of 50 per cent affordable homes for residents, meeting a local need for discounted homes.

"We have listened to local residents' concerns around traffic congestion and are working closely with our professional team to put in measures to mitigate any impacts.

"We also recognise that the secret lake is valued locally and we are committed to opening up this private land to the public through our redevelopment of the site.

"We want to make it safer and more accessible for future users."
