Stockport-born boxing legend Ricky Hatton has been found dead at his home in Tameside, aged 46.

Police were called to his home in Hyde around 6.45am this morning.

Officers say there are no suspicious circumstances around his death.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police reads: "Officers were called by a member of the public to attend Bowlacre Road, Hyde, Tameside, at 6:45am today where they found the body of a 46-year-old man.

"There are not currently believed to be any suspicious circumstances."

Police have not yet officially confirmed identity.

Born in Stockport, Hatton went on to hold multiple world championships in the welterweight and light welterweight divisions.

After he retired from the sport, he was known for his support and campaigning for mental health causes.

In March this year, he opened a new mental health wing at Crumpsall Hospital.
