Local care home celebrates flawless five-star food hygiene rating

A local care home is celebrating after picking up a flawless five-star food hygiene rating.
Bruce Lodge in Offerton, run by Borough Care, picked up the accolade from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) following an inspection in May.
Working in partnership with local authorities, the FSA scheme gives businesses a rating from zero to five. A five-star review means the venue's hygiene standards are 'very good' and fully comply with the law.
To get the top rating, businesses must do well in the following three elements of an inspection:
- How hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
- The physical condition of the business – including cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation, pest control and other facilities
- How the business manages ways of keeping food safe, looking at processes, training and systems to ensure good hygiene is maintained. The officer can then assess the level of confidence in standards being maintained in the future.
Borough Care has 10 homes in Stockport borough, including Bramhall, Bredbury, Brinnington, Cale Green, Davenport, Gatley, Hazel Grove and Offerton. They also have homes in Leek and Stone.
Their aim is to provide 'the safety and sanctuary of a warm and welcoming home' for vulnerable residents, but at the same time go to great effort to make life as interesting, enjoyable and colourful for the residents as possible.
"We refuse to accept that moving into residential care means life becomes grey and dull", Borough Care says. "We are all united in our aspiration to live life in colour."
