A mini Christmas market has opened in Stockport town centre.

Based in the outdoor section of the Merseyway, the market features a range of traders selling sweet and savoury treats, gifts, and more.

Think Yorkshire pudding wraps, festive crumble, Currywurst, and much more.

Further still, Merseyway will be hosting a range of other activities over the coming festive weeks.

For example, there will be a free Gingerbread Hunt, where young visitors are invited to help Mrs Claus discover where her gingerbread men have gone using a trail map and clues.

There will also be a letter writing station open every day from December 1 – 21, giving little ones the chance to write their wish lists and send them straight to the North Pole.

And Santa himself will also be calling at the centre - families will get the chance to meet him and Mrs Claus in their grotto from 11am until slots are filled on Saturday 6 - Sunday 7, Saturday 13 - Sunday 14 and Saturday 20 - Sunday 21 December.

Further still, the shopping centre will be staying open for later in the run-up to Christmas to allow for some cosy evening shopping.

The centre will be open from 9am until 7pm on:

  • Thursday 18 December
  • Friday 19 December
  • Saturday 20 December
  • Monday 22 December
  • Tuesday 23 December

Merseyway said they hope the extended hours will "help shoppers make the most of the festivities, [...] offering extra time to browse, buy and soak up the seasonal atmosphere across the centre".

Merseyway is accessible on the bus via the Mersey Square Wellington Road South bus stop, or by passing under the A6 bridge from the Interchange towards the Chestergate.
