Plans are moving forward to opening a new Søstrene Grene store in Stockport town centre later this year.

Plans have now been submitted to Stockport Council for the shopfront and ground floor.

The new store will be based in the former JD Sports unit at 29 Merseyway - JD has since relocated to a larger flagship store within the town centre.

The submitted plans for the Søstrene Grene shop include details on signage and the shopfront layout, as well as details on the ground floor plan.

The Danish retailer is known for its immersive shop layout, with labyrinthine aisles featuring affordable home decor, craft gifts, art supplies, and much more.

Plans were submitted in June. Neighbours are still able to comment on the proposals until Sunday 20 July.

A decision on the plans is due in August.

Furthermore, Søstrene Grene has now started posting job adverts for staff at the new Stockport store.

Speaking earlier this year, a spokesperson for Merseyway Shopping Centre described Søstrene Grene's decision to open a store in Stockport as "a huge win for local shoppers".

Søstrene Grene CEO Mikkel Grene said: "We are looking very much forward to opening our first store in wonderful Stockport.

"This opening will further solidify our presence in Greater Manchester, where we have many loyal customers.

"The location in Merseyway Shopping Centre is superb and this new store will be the first in the area to showcase our newest shopping concept where we have worked especially on evoking the visitors' senses.

"We want our visitors to feel like entering a Søstrene Grene is like taking a break from an often-hectic everyday life and we cannot wait to spread this feeling amongst shoppers in Stockport."

Søstrene Grene was founded in Denmark in 1973 by Inger Grene and Knud Cresten Vaupell Olsen - its name translates as 'Green Sisters'.

Now led by Grene's sons, Mikkel and Cresten Grene, the brand continues to grow internationally, while staying true to its family-run roots.

Victoria Nichol, Merseyway Centre Manager, added: "Søstrene Grene is exactly the kind of brand we're excited to bring to Merseyway - modern, design-led and offering something truly different.

"We're confident their immersive shopping concept and stylish products will be fully embraced by our shoppers and this opening is a real statement to where Stockport is headed and the kind of experiences we want to offer our visitors."
