A woman has been given a 64-week prison sentence, after she was convicted of a number of theft-related offences.

Ms Kelsey Atwell, 19, was convicted of six theft offences, one burglary, and three breaches of a criminal behaviour order.

She has reportedly stolen thousands of pounds' worth of stock from shops across Stockport.

The 'significant custodial sentence' was given on Thursday 16 May at Stockport Magistrates Court.

PC Leadbetter-Smith, the Neighbourhood Policing Team officer who was in charge of the investigation, said: "Our retail partners and communities across Stockport will be happy to hear that this particular offender has been given a custodial sentence.

"Countless shops have fallen victim to her criminal actions and thousands of pounds has been lost in stock - most of which we have been unable to recover.

"I hope that Ms Atwell takes this time behind bars to reflect on her actions and understand just how serious the punishment can be. Shoplifting is not a victimless crime, and it's the store managers and staff members that must suffer the consequences of her actions. I hope this example speaks for itself to any would-be thieves in Stockport."
