Sarah Harding's cancer consultant will be running 5km to raise funds for The Christie Charity's Sarah Harding Breast Cancer Appeal

The Girls Allowed singer's breast cancer consultant, Dr Sacha Howell, will be joined by Manchester Cancer Research Centre's Sally Best on Saturday 4 January for the 'Walk (Run) This Way' race at Sport City.

Howell oversaw Harding's breast cancer treatment at The Christie, a specialist cancer centre in Manchester, before she sadly passed away in September 2021.

Harding's memory continues to inspire groundbreaking breast cancer research by the Breast Cancer Risk Assessment in Young Women (BCAN-RAY) study, led by Howell.

Howell said: "There are too many young women in their 30s, like Sarah, tragically dying from breast cancer.

"The BCAN-RAY study is Sarah's legacy and the first study of its kind for young women which is helping us find out how we can more accurately identify those who may develop breast cancer.

"It is still the leading cause of death in women under 50 and BCAN-RAY will help us identify those most at risk so we can offer them breast screening to detect cancers earlier, when treatment is more likely to be successful."

Alicia Gaffey, mass participation officer at The Christie Charity, said, "We're thrilled to see Dr Howell and Sally Best leading this fundraising event.

"It highlights how people can come together to make a difference in honour of Sarah Harding and her legacy."

Donations to the charity can be made by guessing which runner, Howell or Best, will claim victory in the race.
