Stockport Council has been cracking down on littering, fly-tipping and more over the last six months.

Since spring, the town hall has presided over a series of 'neighbourhood action days', which involved litter-picking, graffiti removal, and evidence-gathering on offenders.

These action days saw specialist teams deployed to areas where residents have reported persistent issues, including in Heald Green, Hollywood Park, Offerton, Stepping Hill, Reddish, Stockport town centre and Cheadle.

Fly-tipping remains a 'significant' challenge for the borough, the council said, with 4,978 reports recorded across Stockport last year.

Since these operations were launched, there have been 19 fly-tips removed, 29 businesses checked for waste-carrier licenses, and 18 community protection notice warnings.

In one instance in Reddish, eight bags of rubbish and four piles of fly-tipped waste were secured for removal.

And in another on Cheadle High Street, enforcement team members spoke with shop owners to check their waste contracts and how they store their waste bins.

Cllr Dan Oliver, cabinet member for communities, culture, and public protection, said: "People who litter or dump waste illegally should know that we are actively targeting hotspot locations across our borough, gathering evidence and taking enforcement action where appropriate.

"Over the last six months, we've brought together teams from across the council and partners to improve our neighbourhoods, support residents, and tackle environmental crime.

"The message is simple: everyone has a role to play in keeping Stockport clean and those who don't take responsibility can expect action to be taken."
