Lines have re-opened through Hazel Grove after they were closed this afternoon following reports of a person on 'the wrong side' of a bridge.

Emergency services including police, paramedics and fire crews were called to the scene early in the afternoon.

The person was safely brought down just after 2pm, and nobody was hurt.

Disruption on the rail network is expected until 5pm, Network Rail has said.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Just after 12.30pm this afternoon (Sunday 1st February), two fire engines from Stockport and Offerton fire station were called to reports of a person on the wrong side of the bridge on Newby Road, Stockport.

"Crews arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters worked with colleagues from Greater Manchester Police get the person safely on the right side of the bridge.
