‘Prolific offender’ arrested, ‘despite best efforts to disguise himself as a tree’
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Stockport has announced the arrest of a man following reports of him 'causing a disturbance' at two local shops in Offerton.
A police statement describes the man - who had already been circulated on the Police National Computer - as running away in an attempt to evade police who were called to the scene on 14 August.
The same statement reports that during the pursuit he made an attempt to 'disguise himself as a tree' in a local park.
The man was eventually caught by police and taken into police custody for process.
He was later questioned by the town centre neighbourhood team, who charged the male with one count of burglary, 15 counts of theft, one count of common assault and one count of criminal damage that he had committed at various locations across Stockport.
Police Sergeant Matthew Bland of the E Response team said: "The arrest of this prolific offender, who has been responsible for numerous offences over the last few weeks, will be of great relief to our communities and partners.
"I am delighted with the arrest of this individual and I am pleased with the part that my team has played in assisting our colleagues in the central neighbourhood team in bringing this male to justice.
"This once again underlines GMP's commitment to tackling crime."
