Some mysterious flyers have popped up around Edgeley.

These anonymous notes were first spotted in Alexandra Park. Anonymous notes, you might be thinking... so perhaps they contain some kind of targeted message? An advert for a secretive local group?

Not quite - it's something altogether more unusual; a Richard Madeley lookalike contest.

According to the flyers, the contest will take place in Alexandra Park on Sunday 17 August from 11.30am, in what must be a triumph for Stockport's small (but no doubt dedicated) Richard Madeley fanbase.

It promises 'themed' prizes for the three closest lookalikes.

Unfortunately for some of the Madeley hopefuls who might live further afield, the contest falls within a period of rail disruption which might make travelling to Stockport difficult.

However, you can check before you travel here.

The posters have already gained impressive traction on social media, with pictures finding their way into local groups.

Users on social media speculated whether this was a 'weird' quick joke or whether the contest would garner enough interest to warrant a well-organised contest replete with judges, fanfare and more.

That remains to be seen.

In any case, as per the flyers, a Richard Madeley lookalike contest is promised in Alexandra Park on 17 August 2025 from 11.30am.

If you share the striking countenance of the much-loved broadcaster, it might be worth getting yourself down.
