The summer holidays are here, and Merseyway is introducing a pop-up beach dubbed 'Merseybay' to celebrate.

The beach will appear just outside the Merseyway shopping centre near Primark on Friday 25 July.

It will feature a tropical theme, complete with golden sand, beach huts, deckchairs and buckets & spades.

The beach will be free and open for all to enjoy - especially children who can have fun playing in the pit and parents who can relax by the 'beach'-side.

There will even be stalls offering seaside snacks and icy refreshments.

In short, it's bringing the seaside to Stockport!

Better yet, from next week, every Friday there will be a special event hosted at Merseybay. Expect Merseyway Mermaids, Urban Hula, and more - kicking off the itinerary of events on Friday 1 August is the Ohana Summer Launch Party, where families can enjoy live music, games and family-friendly activities including flower garland crafting, temporary tattoos, festival glitter makeovers and mystery visits from two of Hawaii's favourite characters.

Victoria Nichol, Centre Manager at Merseyway said, "Merseybay brings the joy of the seaside right to the heart of our town. This year, we're excited to give it a Hawaiian twist - from mystical mermaids to surprise guest appearances, this year's beach is set to be really exciting, and we can't wait to welcome families for another summer of fun."

Cllr Micheala Meikle, Cabinet Member for Economy, Regeneration and Skills at Stockport Council, said: "Merseybay is a firm favourite with families and draws a crowd each summer. It brings real energy to the town centre and supports our wider regeneration ambitions – driving footfall, supporting local businesses, and making Stockport a destination people want to visit and return to."

Cllr Dan Oliver, Cabinet Member for Culture at Stockport Council, said: "Merseybay is a real highlight of the summer in Stockport.

"It brings the town centre to life with free activities and a brilliant atmosphere for all ages to enjoy. With the addition of Stockroom now open in Merseyway – offering even more free activities, learning opportunities and creative spaces – there's so much for people to enjoy right in the heart of our town."
