Polls open in Stockport for 2026 local elections
By Alasdair Perry 7th May 2026
Polling stations are now open for Stockport residents to cast their votes in the 2026 local elections.
They will remain open until 10pm, after which the results will be announced from Stockport Town Hall.
Stockport Nub News will be bringing live election results from the town hall this evening.
Local elections decide the composition of the local council - in this case, Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council.
Residents will be voting for one councillor in their ward.
Stockport is divided into 21 wards.
Each ward is represented by three councillors. The new councillor, once elected, will serve for four years on Stockport's Council.
Local elections usually have low turn-out rates. But your local council is responsible for things that are very important in our day to day lives, from waste collection to social care.
You can find your nearest polling station here.
Remember, you'll need photo ID to vote!
