Greater Manchester Police has said it will be deploying extra resources while members of the local Jewish community celebrate Shavuot.

Shavuot begins at sunset on Thursday 21 May, and concludes on the night of Saturday 23 May.

It is a major Jewish holiday, celebrating the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai and the ancient summer grain harvest.

Police have said the safety of everyone is their 'highest priority'.

The extra resources will comprise extra patrols and a high-visibility presence within Jewish communities across Greater Manchester.

"We have been working alongside partners such as the local authorities, Community Security Trust, and Shomrim in order to work collectively to ensure the safety of everyone during this time", a GMP spokesperson said.
