Police are securing the site at Hazel Grove Carpetright after a fire started there last night (Friday 6 November).

Officers attended the site today (7 November) to 'ensure it is secured' following the blaze.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Macclesfield Road at 5.30pm on Friday, with four fire engines deployed as well as fire crews with breathing apparatus.

The Hazel Grove Lib Dem councillors group said: "We've been working with officers and the police through the night to make sure the site is secure following last night's fire at the old Carpetright site in the Grove.

"The police are working today to ensure the site is secured - we don't want a repeat of what's happened in the past. Officers at the council are giving us updates on the future of the site."

The store has been closed since 2024 - the site went as Carpetright entered administration, following a period of general consumer decline.
