After a lengthy investigation of six days, the police scene on Middleton Road, Reddish, was closed yesterday (7 June) afternoon.

On Thursday 1 June, police were called to a house on the street following intelligence that it contained 'hazardous material'. After discovering such material in the house - consistent with the manufacture of illegal fireworks - the street was evacuated as police investigated and disposed of the material.

Residents in Offerton reported hearing the controlled detonations of the material, which took place in an isolated location.

Displaced residents were allowed to return to their homes late on Friday 2 June, but a police presence remained.

The search at the house continued, and 50-year-old David Prior was charged with making an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose.

Ultimately, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) announced that yesterday afternoon the police presence had cleared.

An update from GMP via Stockport Council said: "The search of the property at Middleton Road concluded [on the afternoon of 7 June]. The scene has now been closed and the police presence in the area has been withdrawn."
