Police have been tackling retail crime in Stockport town centre as part of a summer crackdown.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police have made arrests and issued criminal behaviour orders (CBOs), as well as fines and imprisonments.

There are now 14 people with active CBOs in Stockport. They prohibit people who've been convicted of an offence from visiting certain places, with the aim of reducing further re-offending.

Among the CBOs is a ban from the Merseyway centre, a ban from the Peel Centre, a ban from every Co-op in Manchester, and more.

Police have been carrying out heightened patrols in Stockport town centre on one day of every month, as part of Operation Rimini.

The operation targets crime in the town centre and surrounding areas using measures such as increased patrols and plain-clothed officers.

Inspector Jason Holmwood said: "The results from the latest Operation Rimini form part of the operations overall success and there is no sign of our teams slowing down.

"The team work extremely hard to tackle issues of concern to our communities and being able to secure four charges as well as issuing another CBO to tackle shoplifting shows how much we understand the pressure these criminals are putting on our retailers and our communities.

"CBOs are an effective tool to prevent further crime and in just Stockport Town Centre, we have secured 14 active CBOs with 7 coming directly from the work carried out by Operation Rimini.

"Operation Rimini has been running since 2023 as we continue to combat crime and anti-social behaviour in our town centre and beyond. Our communities in Stockport should feel safe where they live, work and spend their free time."
