Police in Stockport are appealing for women who were in the Royal Oak in Edgeley on Saturday night (19 August) to come forwards following a sexual assault.

Officers were called to the pub in Stockport at around 9.50pm, to reports that a male was giving unwanted, physical attention to women.

The male in question is currently in custody, having been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. However, GMP are concerned that there could potentially be five more women who the male was seen in company of.

Detective Inspector Chris Aunins of Greater Manchester Police Stockport division, said: "Even though we have the male in custody, we are extremely concerned that there could be a number of other women who may have been sexually assaulted.

"We are urging anyone who came into contact with this male at the Royal Oak last night, to please get in touch with us. We will listen to you and we will believe you.

"You can contact us via 101 or by calling 0161 856 9629, quoting log number 003820-19082023.

"Similarly, if there is anyone who was there last night and has any mobile phone footage, please get in touch."

If you or someone you know has been raped or sexually assaulted, you are encouraged not to suffer in silence and report it to the police or a support agency.

Police provided the following examples of where help and support can be found:

  • "Saint Mary's Sexual Assault Referral Centre, Manchester provides a comprehensive and co-ordinated response to men, women and children who live or have been sexually assaulted within Greater Manchester. They offer forensic medical examinations, practical and emotional support as well as a counselling service for all ages. Services are available on a 24-hour basis and can be accessed by calling 0161 276 6515."
